Hartley's Crocodile Adventures: Visitor Guide

Hartley's Crocodile Adventures: Visitor Guide

Hartley's Crocodile Adventures is a wildlife park on the Captain Cook Highway between Cairns and Port Douglas. It's one of the easiest ways to see big saltwater crocodiles up close, in safety.

Where is it?

Hartley's is at Wangetti, on the coast road. It's about 40 minutes north of Cairns and about 25 minutes south of Port Douglas, so it fits easily into a trip between the two.

What to see

  • Lagoon boat cruise. Glide across a lagoon full of crocodiles while the guide shows how they hunt.
  • Croc feeding and talks. Scheduled shows through the day. Check times on arrival and plan around them.
  • Croc farm tour. See how crocodiles are bred and raised.
  • Other wildlife. Cassowaries, koalas, kangaroos, snakes and birds along the boardwalks.

How long do you need?

Allow 3–4 hours to see the main shows and the lagoon cruise without rushing.

Tips

  • Arrive early and plan your day around the show times.
  • It's warm and humid, so bring water, a hat and sunscreen.
  • Combine it with the Captain Cook Highway drive and a stop at Rex Lookout.
